Biopics have been doing the rounds in the cricketing fraternity for quite a while. Back in September 2016, MS Dhoni– The Untold Story released and the movie took the Indian film industry by storm. Dhoni, the 37-year old former Indian captain, has scaled heights in his illustrious career and the flick was expected to live up to expectations, which it eventually did.
Sushant Singh Rajput, the television actor, and entrepreneur acted in the movie and became a popular personality thereafter. Sachin- A Billion Dreams, hit the silverscreens on May 2017 and did reasonably well. Albeit, it wasn’t a dramatised movie, it garnered a significant amount at the box office. Most of the cricketers have their own stories of playing the illustrious sport.
Also, every cricketer would wish to reach out with their stories to the audience. Recently a number of them, both current and former, talked about the actors, whom they would want to see in action in their biopic. ESPNcricinfo is celebrating their 25th anniversary and on the auspicious occasion, they released a video of their segment ‘On The Spot’- a question and answer session round with a few players.
Cricketers make their choices
During the interaction, the likes of Mohammad Amir, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Dravid and Tamim Iqbal revealed the actors. Amir, the Pakistani fast bowler, named Shahid Kapoor, who has delivered a number of hit movies like Haider, Jab We Met and Kaminey. Amir’s career has been dramatic and playing his role won’t be a cakewalk even for an experienced campaigner like Shahid.
Bangladeshi batsman Tamim Iqbal mentioned Salman Khan as his most preferred hero to play his role. Tamim is currently the leading run-scorer for his country in all the formats and has been playing his trade ever since he was a teenager. Salman is one of the most renowned actors in Bollywood and he undoubtedly has the potential to justify Tamim’s character.
Rahul Dravid, during his playing days, preferred to do things with precision and he selected Amir Khan, which didn’t spring a surprise for the reason that Amir is known as ‘Mr. Perfectionist’. Indian all-round cricketer Ravindra Jadeja went for Emraan Hashmi, the flamboyant actor who is also a popular figure in the Indian movie fraternity.
