Cricketing fraternity mourns the demise of the legendary Dilip Kumar

Dilip Kumar, the veteran Indian actor, breathed his last at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday, July 7 at the age of 98 after going through a prolonged illness. The legendary figure was diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion, a build-up of excess fluid between the layers of the pleura outside the lungs.
Thereafter, he underwent a successful pleural aspiration procedure and was discharged after five days. However, he had to be admitted to the hospital yet another time. Since last Tuesday, Dilip Kumar had been admitted to the Hinduja Hospital a non-COVID-19 facility in Khar.
The last rites, following his demise, will be done at the Juhu Qabrastan at Santacruz Mumbai at 5 PM. Kumar had an illustrious career and was known for his roles in movies like “Mughal-e-Azam” and “Devdas”. He is survived by his wife Saira Banu.
“He passed away due to prolonged illness at 7.30 am,” Dr. Jalil Parkar, who had been treating Dilip Kumar, was quoted as saying.
Prime Minister and President send in condolences
“With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him, we return,” Faisal Farooqui, Kumar’s family friend, posted from the actor’s Twitter handle at 8.01 am.

Narendra Modi, the Honourable Prime Minister of India, and Ram Nath Kovind, the Indian President, also expressed their grief.
“Dilip Kumar summarised in himself a history of emerging India. The thespian’s charm transcended all boundaries, and he was loved across the subcontinent…Dilip Saab will live forever in the heart of India,” the President wrote.
“He was blessed with unparalleled brilliance, due to which audiences across generations were enthralled. His passing away is a loss to our cultural world. Condolences to his family, friends, and innumerable admirers. RIP,” the Prime Minister wrote.
From the Bollywood world, the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, choreographer Farah Khan, and many others offered their condolences.
In the meantime, the cricketing fraternity also reacted to the demise of the legendary actor. From former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi to Virender Sehwag and many others, condolences poured in.
