The IPL 2020 extravaganza rolled out two more thrillers to finish off the weekend. In the first encounter of the day, bottom-placed Kings XI Punjab locked horns with Kolkata Knight Riders where the winner was decided by the narrowest of margins.
After electing to bat first, KKR managed to post a decent total of 164 on the back of skipper Dinesh Karthik’s blistering knock. Karthik hammered 58 off 29 and played a crucial role in KKR amassing a competitive total on the board.
In reply, KXIP started off strong with their in-form pair of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. The duo stitched 115 runs for the first wicket. However, the game completely turned upside down in the last few overs. KXIP lost wickets in quick succession and it all boiled down to KXIP needing 12 from the last five deliveries. Sunil Narine, stepping up with his bowling forte, restricted KXIP to 162 as KKR clinched the encounter by 2 runs in a dramatic fashion.
Talking about the second encounter, it was the battle between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. Batting first, Kohli, leading his side from the front, slammed a brilliant 90 to guide RCB to a dominant 169-run total.
CSK, who are struggling to chase this season, failed this time too. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with Ambati Rayudu trying to save CSK’s sinking ship at the other end. Debutant Narayan Jagadeesan, scoring 33 off 28 deliveries, assisted Rayudu well but not a single CSK batsman was able to accelerate according to the asking run-rate.
In the end, Chennai managed to amass just 132 runs and their dismal run in UAE continued with this defeat. One of the most successful IPL sides, CSK have registered five losses in seven games and are sitting sixth in the points table with four points.
1. Albie Morke reacts to CSK’s thumping defeat
CSK need to get some urgency and combinations going in their batting. Faf an Watson been good. Maybe give Bravo more balls. Running between the wickets lethargic.
