The cricketing trends on social media revolved around a number of events. The 25th match of the 2019 ICC World Cup between New Zealand and South Africa took place at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. After a rain delay, the match started at 16:30 IST and the game was reduced to 49 overs per side. After the first innings, the Proteas put up 241 on the board courtesy of half-centuries from Hashim Amla and Rassie van der Dussen.
For the Black Caps, Lockie Ferguson was the most successful with three wickets. Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme and Mitchell Santner picked up one wicket each. Bishen Singh Bedi, the former Indian spinner, was extremely happy by the performances of the Kiwis’ bowlers for keeping the ball up and not over-using the short delivery. Cricketer turned commentator Russel Arnold showed his support for South Africa to win the game.
In the meantime, Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the World Cup in England and Wales due to a thumb injury. He got hit by a bouncer from Pat Cummins during the match versus Australia in London. Scans revealed that he has a hairline fracture and soon after the 21-year-old Rishabh Pant was called upon as a cover. After Dhawan’s exclusion, Pant has been named as the replacement.
The likes of Suresh Raina, VVS Laxman, and Mohammad Kaif wished Dhawan a speedy recovery, asking him to stay strong in the tough time. They also wished the young Pant on his stint in the mega event. Hashmatullah Shahidi, the Afghanistan batsman who got 76 runs versus England in Manchester, expressed his gratitude to former Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara.
1. Gambhir’s best wishes for Pant
Disappointed to know that @SDhawan25 will no longer take part in @cricketworldcup, he looked so much a part. My thoughts are with u brotherman but don’t worry not the end of the world. And best wishes to @RishabPant777. I’d urge that we don’t put any undue pressure on Rishabh.

4. Allan Donald lauds the fast bowlers
It’s been a @cricketworldcup so far where the fast bowlers have been very successful due to an aggressive approach all round. More short balls bowled that I can remember. Not many teams have been tested at the death yet really but that’s around the corner I feel!
