About the match, India’s pacers exuded their flair to take command of the game. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami chimed in with three wickets each to wrap up South Africa’s innings. The hosts’ skipper Dean Elgar stayed firm on the ground to hold the fort of the side.

However, a good length ball outside off from Jasprit Bumrah showed him the way back to the pavilion. He thus departed with 77 runs to his account as the Proteas was reduced to 130-5 on Day 5 of the first Test. Mohammed Siraj also picked up two wickets in the match which included the prized scalp of keeper batter Quinton de Kock.

Ashwin then ended the proceedings with the final two wickets as South Africa was restricted to 191 runs. With this victory, the Virat Kohli-led side has breached cricket’s two biggest fortresses in a calendar year and has blown the trumpet of their dominance in the longest format of the game.
