Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had lost in the IPL final in front of their home ground against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday. There has been a lot of talk about the final being a competition between the SRH bowlers and the RCB batsmen.

It was the SRH captain David Warner who won the toss and elected to bat and lead in the front with his 9th half-century of this season. Normally after the start from SRH used to lose their way, but it was not the story for the final. After contributions from Yuvraj Singh and Shikhar Dhawan, Ben Cutting came down at no.6 and played a cameo to take SRH over 200, which eventually proved out to be the difference between a win and a lose. Cutting scored 39 runs off 15 balls including a 24-run final over off Shane Watson that saw a 117m six.

In the second innings, while RCB was batting, Cutting came with the ball and picked the wickets of Chris Gayle and KL Rahul to give his side the upper hand. Gayle was batting so well at that moment and feels like running away with the match.

“Ben Cutting with his batting was probably decisive. If you look at the overall scheme of things, he took some crucial wickets too that put us on the back foot,” Daniel Vettori, the RCB Coach said in the post-match press conference on Sunday.

Vettori said that they were unable to kick on with the start Gayle and the skipper had given and lost wickets at crucial intervals which is the reason for the loss. He said: “I think in an IPL game, there are some critical moments and in any IPL team there are some very good players. The start we got today allowed us the confidence to do that [go for the chase]. I think just when we required a couple of guys to kick on, we weren’t able to maintain the momentum that Chris and others had established for us. So I think Sunrisers grabbed their opportunities and got wickets at crucial times”.
