Darren Sammy has been one of the most popular overseas cricketers in Pakistan. He has been a thorough entertainer in the country and has captured the imaginations of the crowd with his antics on the cricket pitch and on the social media platforms where he is an active participant. The Windies cricketer has also played the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for three consecutive seasons.

He represented the Peshawar Zalmi ever since the inception of the tournament and has been an integral member of the side. The third edition of the league has ended a month back with Islamabad United emerging as the winners against the Zalmi. Meanwhile, The Zalmi Annual Excellence Awards will take place on April 30 which is likely to feature eminent personalities like Brian Lara and Sir Vivian Richards.

The likes of Jeff Thompson, Nasser Hussain and Graham Gooch will also grace their presence in the event. The event will be staged in collaboration with PTV titled the Zalmi Lifetime Achievement Awards. Meanwhile, Javed Afridi, the owner of the Zalmi, has mentioned that Darren Sammy would be travelling Pakistan for the event. He updated the same on Twitter.

Here is Javed Afridi’s tweet

He played as an all-rounder in the first season after which the baton of leadership was handed over to him by Shahid Afridi. The move paid dividends as he led his side to their maiden championship by defeating the Quetta Gladiators in the Final. The St. Lucia born cricketer also dished out some impressive performances, which guided the Zalmi to the Final.

In the event, Sammy scored 159 runs in 11 games at a strike rate of 182.75. In the Final against Islamabad, the Zalmi stumbled at the Final hurdle and was brushed aside by the Jean Paul Duminy team. Nevertheless, despite the defeat, the love and admiration of Sammy among the Pakistani people didn’t die down by any means.
