Cricketing fans all over the world were left shell-shocked after the Australian ball-tampering scandal was exposed in the media. Australian skipper, Steve Smith, and vice-captain, David Warner-owned up to their involvement in the controversial ‘Sandpaper Gate’ incident soon after. Recently, Warner came out with a statement regarding the ban quantum that he’s been handed by Cricket Australia (CA).

While many were enraged at the ball tampering incident in the initial stages of it being revealed, the rage has turned into sympathy ever since Smith and Warner were handed 12-month long bans by CA. Cameron Bancroft, on his part, was banned from international Cricket for 9 months. All three cricketers have accepted the ban and decided not to challenge the ruling.

David Warner tweets to accept CA sanctions

In a recent tweet, Warner fully accepted all the sanctions imposed on him by CA and apologized to his fans and followers. He went on to express hope towards becoming “a better person, teammate and role model.” A few days earlier, Warner had broken down in a press conference while accepting his fault and rendered his heartfelt apology for all lovers of the game. This had been preceded by another presser by Smith, where heartbreaking images of the Australian captain reducing to tears, with his father comforting him during his address had emerged.

Here’s what Warner tweeted:

The third Test between Australia and South Africa had been witness to the unfolding of the unfortunate incidents when Cameron Bancroft had been spotted by the cameras while using a yellow adhesive tape to alter the condition of the ball. Bancroft eventually went on put the tape down the front of his trousers, causing umpires to question his actions. Soon after, Smith and Bancroft confessed to the ‘leadership group’ being aware of the proceedings from beforehand. After an immersive investigation into the incident that caused a massive uproar in the entire cricketing fraternity, all three were found guilty of being involved in the scandal.
