One of the world’s most explosive batsmen, David Warner is all set to make a unique ‘debut’ on the Indian soil. Warner made his One-Day International (ODI) debut way back in January 2009 at Bellerive Oval, against South Africa. But believe it or not, the upcoming India-Australia series will mark his first ODI stint in India.

Warner is anything but new to playing in India. He has been a regular feature in the T20 extravaganza, Indian Premier League (IPL) since the year 2009 and has led the Sunrisers Hyderabad side in the tournament. He is also one of the leading run-scorers of the championship, with 4014 runs to his name. However, the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will be the stage of Warner’s first ODI match in the country.

Warner and his power hitting expected to make a grand debut

The Australian side will look to bring the Indian juggernaut to a standstill and if they are to do so, power-hitter David Warner will have to come out swinging with the bat. The 30-year old has accrued 4025 runs at an average of 44.72 and a strike rate of 96.77 in ODIs, which comprise 13 ODI centuries and 16 fifties. Further, he has been in sublime touch of late and is currently ranked 2nd in the ICC ODI batsmen ranking, only behind Indian skipper, Virat Kohli.

Till date, the Australian vice-captain has played 10 ODIs against India. In these 10 innings, he’s smashed 391 runs, including a century and two half-centuries. He has also been the recipient of a lone ‘Man of the Match’ award against India, back in 2012. Warner, in his 8 years long ODI career has played 96 ODIs for his nation, but never one in India. This is primarily because the Australian selectors had decided against including him in the squad for the series against India for both the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 bilateral series.
