Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes has accepted India as his new home after his coaching exploits with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has now developed a special relationship with a lot of MI players which includes Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar who formerly played for the franchise and is the mentor now. Rhodes on Friday praised Sachin and his former South African teammate Jacques Kallis for their work ethics.

He was giving tips to budding cricketers at a talent hunt in New Delhi, the Indian Junior Players League and on the occasion said: “I was deeply impressed with the work ethic of Tendulkar, who despite being the best batsman in the world, never took anything for granted and tried to give his best every single time. He used to work on his batting more than anyone else in the team. The same holds true for Jacques Kallis, who was always committed towards doing better than what he had previously done.”

He also named Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli in the same league of players adding that he has worked hard not only on his batting but also largely on his ground fielding as well as fitness. Talking about the upcoming series between India and England Rhodes said that he feels it will be a tough test for the touring Indian team.

“It’s going to be tough for England. Being in India for five Tests is physically and mentally very demanding because you are in a situation where conditions are not comfortable to you and it puts you under a bit more pressure,” the fielding legend said.

He also expressed that in his opinion, fans are still pretty much interested in Test cricket. “India playing Tests, especially against Pakistan, draw spectators in huge numbers. Same is the case with the Ashes (Australia vs England). But I believe that innovations in Test cricket should be welcomed to keep the charm of the format intact,” Rhodes concluded saying.
