'Definition of heroism, humility & grace' - Anand Mahindra lauds Sam Curran's heroics against India

The third One Day International between India and England was nothing less than a roller-coaster ride as both teams gave it their all to clinch the series-decider. Despite the roadblocks, India managed to have the last laugh as they won the ODI series by 2-1 after a 3-2 and 3-1 victory in the T20I and Test series respectively.

The game witnessed one of the rare moments as the Man of the Match was awarded to a player from the losing side. Sam Curran had won hearts with his match-defining knock of not out 95 runs off 83 deliveries including nine boundaries and three maximums at a strike rate of 114.46.

The 22-year-old had walked to bat in 26th over when England had lost all the hopes of winning the game as they were reeling at a score of 168 for 6 while chasing 329. However, with his class and temperament, the all-rounder made sure that he denied the Men in Blue an easy victory.

After the game, Sam Curran turned to his official Twitter handle to appreciate the Indian side for their commendable effort. “Lots of lessons learned, great series to be apart of. Congratulations to India,” Curran tweeted.

Mahindra Group’s chairman Anand Mahindra was left impressed with the sportsmanship shown by the England youngster and he retweeted the tweet by Sam to laud him for his humility and grace.

India’s comprehensive performance against England

Losing the toss, India was put to bat first. The hosts had a decent start as the opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan stitched a 100+ run partnership. However, Rohit Sharma’s wicket initiated a collapse of the batting line-up as India lost their four wickets back-to-back.

This was followed by a stunning show by Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant as they hammered the ball like anything and steered India to a par total of 329 runs. Shradul Thakur also played an effective cameo in the end by collecting 30 runs off 21 deliveries.

Chasing 330, England had a torrid start as they lost their first two wickets within three overs to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Though Sam Curran was almost successful in taking his team to the finishing line, a brilliant death bowling by Bhuvi, Hardik and T Natarajan ensured that the hosts won the game by seven runs.
