Suryakumar Yadav has been in India’s domestic circuit ever since 2010, but he is yet to get a taste of international cricket. The 29-year-old has played 73 first-class, 88 List A and 149 T20s in which he has notched 4,920, 2,311 and 3,012 runs respectively. Especially in the T20 format, he has flourished for Mumbai, having a strike-rate of 139.12 and 15 half-centuries under hie belt.

But despite the consistent performances, he hasn’t been able to break into the national team. Surya was recently a part of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. There he was the third-highest run scorer, notching 392 runs in 11 matches at an average of 56. Yadav’s strike-rate of 168.96 also suggests that he didn’t have much troubles in upping the ante in the hour of need.

Surya is currently playing for Mumbai in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy. In Mumbai’s first match versus Baroda in Vadodara, he scored an unbeaten century in the second innings after bagging a duck in the first. Surya has recently been picked to play for India A for a couple of tour matches and three One Day matches in New Zealand, scheduled to get underway on January 22, 2020.

Suryakumar Yadav not picked for Sri Lanka series

In the meantime, Harbhajan Singh, the veteran Indian spinner, isn’t happy with the national selectors by any stretch of the imagination. India’s squad for the three-match T20I series versus Sri Lanka has recently been announced and Surya’s name didn’t feature in the list. The same has left Harbhajan a tad agitated, who has backed the Mumbai batsman for quite some time.

The series gets underway on Sunday, January 05 at the Barsapara Stadium in Mumbai. Indore and Pune will play hosts to the second and third T20I On January 7 and January 10 respectively. Harbhajan blasted the selectors, asking if they have different criteria for players. He also found it tough to understand what Surya has done wrong in his career to get ignored.

Harbhajan took to Twitter and wrote, “I keep wondering what’s wrong @surya_14kumar hv done ? Apart from scoring runs like others who keep getting picked for Team india india/A india /B why different rules for different players ???,”
