Nowadays, cricket is a domain of entertainment. Besides the bat or ball, cricketers nowadays also make the headlines through their fashion statements or unique get-ups. On Friday, India’s limited-overs specialist Dinesh Karthik attracted eyeballs by doing something similar. In the second match of the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Karthik was seen wearing a beanie while fielding and the sight caught the attention of Twitterati.

The weather conditions in Melbourne were extremely windy and cloudy and the Indian players were seen fielding with their sweaters on after Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and asked the hosts to bat. Karthik was fielding in the deep with a blue beanie bearing the symbol of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The social media users also came up with diverse posts, memes and picture messages over Karthik’s unique headgear and they were widely circulated. Karthik also caught a catch at deep point – an uppercut shot attempted by Marcus Stoinis off Jasprit Bumrah in the seventh over of the match.

Match washed out at MCG; India now can only draw the series

India, however, lost the opportunity to win the T20I series as the match was eventually washed out by rain after the hosts put up 132 for 7 in 19 overs. India did not get an opportunity to bat although they were given a target of 137 off 19 overs. The match could see only one inning of batting and Australia still lead the three-match series 1-0 with the final game scheduled to be played in Sydney on Sunday.

For the Australians, Ben McDermott was the highest scorer with 32 not out while for India, pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed took two wickets each. Krunal Pandya, who was heavily criticised after his ordinary performance at the Gabba in the first game, bowled excellently in this game, taking one wicket for 26 runs in four overs. The sole wicket belonged to Glenn Maxwell, Krunal’s tormentor in the last match.

India lost the first match by just 4 runs in DLS Method after rain affected the game after Australia played 17 overs. Though the hosts scored 158 for 4 in 17 overs in that game, India were given a target of 174 in 17 overs but they could manage 169 for 7.
