The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has for the longest time aired its view against the induction of the Decision Review System (DRS) and former Test skipper MS Dhoni had a similar view since the technology used isn’t foolproof yet. But the current Test skipper Virat Kohli owns a different opinion, though he stands by their decision of keeping DRS at bay has said that they can “probably introduce it in the future”.
Kohli while interacting with the media ahead of the 2nd Test against New Zealand at Eden Gardens also said that since they have opted out of it the team isn’t really bothered if a call by the umpire goes against them. “We won’t take (bad) decisions too hard, because we in the first place decided that we would not use DRS, so for us to then say that umpires made an error and it’s going against us, it’s not logical,” said Kohli on Thursday (September 29). “So there’s no room for excuses, I feel. Once DRS is in place and once DRS is up and running for us as well, then you can sit and think what are the grey areas that are there.”
While he showed his inclination towards adopting the DRS in the future he still holds reservations for the ball-tracking and HawkEye – both of which use projections to predict what might have happened.
“See those are the things that I can’t say yes or no, sitting here. But these are things we have discussed, these are things we have had meetings on,” he revealed when asked if, from a batsman’s point of view, he would prefer DRS. “Because there were some areas that we felt can be debated, especially the ball tracking and Hawkeye. But all in all obviously, when you feel that … I personally feel these are things that can be discussed and debated on.

“As I said, these things have been spoken about. We want to definitely think about it, but I can’t make a decision sitting here right now. But it’s a good point you made, it’s something that we have had discussions on and we’ll certainly look to probably introduce it in future.” Kohli said.
