Former Indian cricketer and legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar spoke in favour of the Decision Review System recently. Decision Review System or DRS is a widely accepted system of reviewing umpiring decisions in world cricket. While most of the countries have been using it frequently, India have been concerned about it’s usage. However, in the ongoing Test series against England, the DRS has been introduced.

In a recent interaction with PTI, Sachin Tendulkar called the DRS as a positive step in cricket. He was asked if the BCCI should be using it more frequently. Sachin’s response was straight forward. He said if the BCCI is convinced with all the reforms made in the DRS, then there is no reason why it should not be used.

“If BCCI have studied well and they are convinced with this (modifications in the DRS), then why not! I think it is a positive step,” quoted Sachin Tendulkar. However, he asserted that the system can be beneficial only if it is consistent in all parts of the world. If some series features hotspot technology and some goes with snickometer, then there would be no uniformity.

“The whole thing was about having consistency everywhere in the world. Because I noticed that one change – snickometer in one part of the other world and the other part of the world was hotspot,” cited Tendulkar. Hence, in order to maintain the regularity in the system, DRS must be standardised in all parts of the cricket world.

“There was no uniformity. When you play Test cricket, there are certain things which need to be standardised everywhere in the world and when DRS is actually now as good as part of, norm of cricket, literary into that, then it should be standardised everywhere in the world,” he added.

This would help in removing all sorts of confusion regarding which technology is being used in which series. “So whichever match you are playing, one should not be asking okay what will be happening, is snickometer available or hotspot available, it should be standardised,” he conceded.
