English county team Durham are currently in hot waters after two of their mainstay are mulling on a move-out. After sustaining an ECB imposed relegation, the English club fears the exit of Keaton Jennings and Paul Coughlin. It has been reported that Nottinghamshire are eyeing Jennings. Jennings’ current club was relegated last season and started the summer with a 48 point deficit.
They are currently struggling at the third bottom place in the Division Two County Championship. veteran Paul Collingwood has agreed on an extension, and he will be seen in 2018 too. But the absence of the two promising cricketers will rock the entire set up. Coughlin led the team during the Natwest Blast, while Jennings captained Durham’s Royal London Cup side.
Release clause
Both the players have release clauses in the contracts they signed in 2016 and that let them quit due to the three-time county champions languishing in the second tier of the County Championship.
Notts are interested in Jennings, dropped by England in the middle of the summer, and the opportunity to play on a Test ground and in front of the club’s director of cricket Mick Newell, one of the national selectors, obviously doesn’t sound too bad for someone who is making a bid to make a comeback.
Shown the door
Jennings was part of the English squad, which faced South Africa in the Test series at home. Jennings failed to grab the opportunity and therefore was shown the exit door.
“It was a really good learning experience for me,” 25-year-old Jennings told BBC Newcastle.“It was a tough series, you’ve got three of the top 12 or 13 bowlers in the world on some pretty tough surfaces. “I’ve moved away, I think, a more knowledgeable and better player and I’ll definitely be in the nets grafting on my game to try to move myself forward.”
