Australian woman cricketer Ellyse Perry has expressed her delight after winning ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award. The International Cricket Council declared the inaugural Rachael Heyhoe Flint award to the Australian for her incredible performance throughout the year across all the formats. However, she has appreciated the recognition from them and also felt that Women’s cricket has come a long way this year.
The 27-year-old all-rounder smashed the first ever double century in Tests during the recently concluded Ashes Test. She also shone with the ball and scalped three wickets with the ball in hand. Perry also amassed 905 runs and snaffled 22 wickets in One-Day Internationals during the voting period for the award. Australia played only four T20Is in the year in which she scored only 28 runs and four wickets.

The award has been introduced by ICC in the memory of Heyhoe Flint, one of the legendary figures in Women’s cricket, the World Cup winner and ICC Hall of Famer. She passed away unfortunately in January earlier this year. Ellyse Perry was delighted after winning the award and took to Twitter to express her happiness. She tweeted, “2017 has been an incredible year for women’s cricket, with lots of highlights from so many teams and players. Very much appreciate the recognition from the @ICC and the opportunity for a pretty cool first tweet!”
“It’s an absolute privilege to take the Rachael Heyhoe Flint award this year and being the first cricketer to being named after such a significant and prominent figure. It’s an absolute honour to have named after her to receive it for the first and it will hold near to the rest of my career,” she said in a video released by ICC by their official Twitter handle. Also, she was delighted to post her first tweet on social media for the first time ever in her career.
