The Team India selectors have gone ahead and named the squad for the upcoming Test series against England. While their are a few injuries to the side, a few surprise inclusions have indeed been made. With the Indians coming up with a loss after having led the ODI series, skipper Virat Kohli has seemingly called for sweeping changes in the side, something that is certainly not unexpected.

India’s spearhead pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be missing out on the action after sustaining an injury with his lower back in the third and final ODI of the series. In another twist altogether, Rishabh Pant, the stalwart wicketkeeping batsman has been given his first call-up to the Indian squad and will act as the backup for custodian Dinesh Karthik. Wriddhiman Saha’s injury means that Karthik will be given an extended run with the gloves for India in Tests.

With Bhuvneshwar out of action, Shardul Thakur has kept his place in the side along with Umesh Yadav with Ishant Sharma expected to lead the pace battery for the Indians. After passing the fitness Test, Mohammed Shami returns with Hardik Pandya proving to be yet another fast-bowling option. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will reprise their roles with Kuldeep Yadav also added to the squad following some strong performances.

The first Test match between India and England begins on the first of August with both sides taking the field in Edgbaston.
