The much-awaited test series between England and India is just round the corner. It is expected to be an even contest as both teams have a good pool of players while there are a few areas of concern as well. England may have the upper hand if the conditions are suitable for the seamers while India will thrive of relatively drier conditions. The series is vital for players who have not yet cemented their spot in the playing XI. Quality performances would do a whole lot of good for a player to progress in his career.

Fast bowlers are prone to injuries. There are very few fast bowlers who have managed to go through an injury-free career. The modern day cricket has become more hectic for the bowlers which has increased the chances of injuries. Mark Wood, an England pacer had gone through 12 months without carrying a major injury. He was being carefully monitored and his fitness was regularly assessed. However, with just hours left for the announcement of the England squad for the first test, Wood has to undergo a scan for a heel problem.

Raring to go

The pacer complained about the pain in his heel and was forced to leave the field on day one of Durham’s County Championship clash with Gloucestershire at Cheltenham. He bowled just six overs in the match. The issue was at first diagnosed as a trapped nerve and he returned to the field towards the end of the day but has been unable to bowl since.

“Mark has been for a scan today and we will know more when we get the results. It’s a strange one and it could be something and nothing. It is nothing to do with his past ankle problems and the symptoms are not that of a bruised heel.” Durham coach Jon Lewis was quoted as saying by thecricketer.com. Wood will be hoping that it is nothing serious as he will be eager to participate in the five match test series against India.

The first test match between England and India will be played at Edgbaston on August 1.
