The wedding bells continue to ring in England cricket. After their limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan, the Test captain Joe Root has also tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend Carrie Cotterell on Saturday. The wedding ceremony took place in Sheffield where Root arrived his White Rolls Royce which sought everyone’s attention during the grand event.

Both, Joe and Carrie, were dating each other since 2016 when the former proposed her by kneeling down on his knees before leaving for India for the ICC World T20. Ever since then the couple was together and decided to marry soon after Root returned home after a successful Sri Lanka tour where England managed to whitewash the home side in a three-match Test series.

Root to leave for Australia

According to the reports in Daily Mail, Joe Root and Carrie Cotterell exchanged the marriage vows in Sheffield on Saturday and the groom arrived in Rolls Royce with his father Matt and best-man, brother Billy. Though not many details were available from his wedding, it seems that Root wanted to get married as soon as possible with him slated to travel Australia next week in order to participate in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the Syndey Thunder.

He is yet to prove himself as the T20 player and his below-par strike-rate is the reason for same. It will be interesting to see how England‘s Test captain fares in the shortest format and might well give his name for the upcoming IPL auction which will be taking place later this month.

As far as his international assignments are concerned, England will be virtually taking a long rest in the festive season. They are scheduled to travel to the Caribbean islands in order to face the Windies for 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and 3 T20 Internationals starting from January 23 before which they will play a four-day practice game to adapt to the conditions.
