An eventful opening day of the series decider Test between England and West Indies at the Lord’s spiced up the context of the game as 14 wickets fell during the day’s play. After electing to bat first, West Indies were wrapped up by the home side for just 123 as Ben Stokes claimed six wickets. England lost four wickets for 46 runs before bad light brought an end to the day’s play.

Here we look at all the stats and records created during the day’s play.

3 – Number of Test series in which Ben Stokes has scored a century and picked up a 5-wicket haul. Only Ian Botham (10) and Gary Sobers (5) have more.

8 – Ben Stokes became only the 8th player to score a century and take a 5-wicket haul in Test cricket at Lord’s. His 6/22 in this game is his 1st five-fer at Lord’s while his only Test century at the venue was his 101 against New Zealand in 2015.

14 – Number of wickets that fell during the first day’s play. These are the 2nd most on the opening day of a Lord’s Test in last 50 years. The England-Australia Test in 2005 witnessed 17 wickets falling on the 1st day.

20 – The 20 runs aggregate of England’s top four batsmen is the lowest for them in a home Test since 2005 Lord’s Test against Australia. England’s top four collectively scored 15 runs in their 1st innings of that 2005 Test.

24 – England’s total for the loss of 4th wicket is their lowest total in an innings in a home Test at the fall of 4th wicket since Lord’s Test against Australia in 2005 where they lost their 4th wicket at 19.

45 – Joe Root’s one run in the first innings is the lowest by an England captain in 45 innings in Test format. Alastair Cook bagged a duck in the 2nd innings of 2015 Boxing Day Test against South Africa at Durban.

123 – West Indies’ total of 123 is their 2nd lowest total in the first innings of a Test match after electing to bat first. They were bowled out for 99 after electing to bat first against Australia at Melbourne in 1931.

1979 – West Indies’ 123-run total is the lowest for any team at the Lord’s in the first innings after electing to bat first since India’s 96/10 against England in 1979.
