After their dominating show at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, India couldn’t replicate their form in the second contest at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first and the decision paid dividends as they managed to rack up 322 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The top order took them off to a handsome start after which they hardly lost any momentum.

The run-chase started on an impressive note for the Men in Blue, but they lost their first three wickets in a space of 15 balls that pushed them back. Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina tried to resurrect the stutter, but after their dismissal, the visitors lost their way and were bowled out for 236 runs. England won the match by 86 runs to draw level in the three-match series.

Here are the ratings of the English players

Jason Roy- 6

Roy played a brisk knock at Trent Bridge and he played a pretty similar knock today. He milked the pacers with utmost ease and played out the first ten overs. He whacked four boundaries and a six in his knock of 40 runs from 42 deliveries. The right-hander was nipped out by Kuldeep Yadav when he went for a slog-sweep only to find the safe palms of Umesh Yadav.

Jonny Bairstow- 7

Bairstow was the more aggressive partner in his stand of 69 with Roy. He went at a strike-rate of 122.58 in his knock of 38 runs in 31 balls. The 28-year-old hit five fours and a six in his short, yet useful innings to make use of the field restrictions. He became Kuldeep’s second victim in the tweaker’s third over. Bairstow went for a sweep only to see his woodwork rattled.

Joe Root- 9.5

Root hasn’t had the best of outings in the last few matches, but he came into his own and notched his 12th century in ODIs. He turned over the strike on a number of occasions and hit eight fours and a six in his knock of 113 runs from 116 balls. Most importantly, he played till the very end to ensure the Brits racked up a significant score for their opponents to trace down.

Eoin Morgan- 7

The English skipper couldn’t score much in the last few matches. However, he churned out a knock of 53 runs from 51 balls to find some form back. Moreover, he also built a partnership of 103 runs with Root and bailed England out after they lost their openers in quick succession to the guile of Kuldeep. He eventually succumbed to a full-bunger from the chinaman bowler.

Ben Stokes- 3

Stokes after a rather indifferent ODI comeback in Nottingham, couldn’t step up in the second match. He came to bat following Morgan’s dismissal and managed to add just five runs. Stokes tried to steer the ball down the third-man off Hardik but nicked the leather into the gloves of MS Dhoni. He bowled five overs and conceded 29 runs without any success. Nevertheless, he took three catches in the outfield.

Jos Buttler- 3

Buttler, after an impressive outing at Trent Bridge, could only score four runs today. He came to bat after Stokes’ dismissal and fell prey to Umesh Yadav. He slashed hard but the ball found the outside edge and was also Dhoni’s 300th catch in ODIs. He affected a stumping and took a couple of catches to dismiss KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, and Umesh Yadav respectively.

Moeen Ali- 5

Moeen scored 13 runs in 16 balls with one boundary. The left-hander tried to heave the ball but only managed a top-edge. Rohit Sharma took a brilliant catch to send him packing. While bowling, he picked up the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli in the 27th over to dent India’s chances of a comeback. He finished with a spell of 10-0-42-1 and most importantly, bowled 30 dot deliveries.

David Willey- 9

Willey’s knock of 51 runs from 31 balls helped England comfortably go past the 300-run mark. His maiden half-century in ODIs provided the impetus required by the home team to propel their score. The left-hander whacked five boundaries and a six in his quick-fire innings. The 28-year-old also churned out Shikhar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal’s wicket and his bowling numbers were 10-0-48-2.

Adil Rashid- 8

Rashid was England’s most economical bowler with figures of 10-0-38-2. The tweaker castled Suresh Raina when the batsman threatened to take the match away from them with a knock of 46 runs from 63 balls. Umesh Yadav was his second victim. The spinner also bowled 29 dot balls and never allowed the belligerent Indian batsmen to play their strokes freely.

Liam Plunkett- 9

Plunkett was arguably England’s standout bowler with bowling figures of 10-1-46-4. He picked up his first wicket in the form of KL Rahul courtesy of a one-handed catch by Jos Buttler. The pacer then accounted for the wickets of MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya. Siddarth Kaul was his fourth victim. He bowled 29 dot balls and conceded only one boundary.

Mark Wood- 5

Wood picked up the prized scalp of Rohit Sharma, last match’s centurion. Rohit hit two fours and looked settled to carry forward his form in the second match as well. He scored 15 runs after which Wood provided his team with their first breakthrough. Rohit went for a swipe only too see his stumps go for a walk. The pacer bowled only five overs in which he gave away 31 runs.
