The fifth and the rescheduled Test between England and India gets underway on July 01, 2022, at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After the four matches, the series got paused in 2021 due to the COVID outbreak in the India camp, and the final game was rearranged to play this year. The visitors have a lead of 2-1 and they will look to win their first Test series in England since 2007 when the current coach Rahul Dravid led the team to a historic 1-0 (3) win.

Talking about the series which got halted, Joe Root was at his best, as he has been over the past few years now. England’s Mr.Reliable smashed 564 runs in four games at a stellar average of 94.00 which included three centuries and one half-century with the highest score of 180*. For India, Rohit Sharma, who is the captain now, struck 368 runs in eight innings at an average of 52.57 with one century and two fifties. In the bowling department, tall pacer Ollie Robinson took the most wickets (21), followed by India’s spearhead Jasprit Bumrah (18).

The first match of the series got drawn in Nottingham with India winning the second and England clinching the third encounter. The Asian giants bounced back with a victory in the penultimate clash at The Oval before the interruption. Fast forward to 2022, a lot has changed in both the team’s camps in the Test format. The hosts have begun a new era with two new appointments of coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes. For the tourists, Rahul Dravid has taken over the role of coach from Ravi Shastri while Rohit has replaced Virat as India’s all-format captain.

England’s counter-attack approach was witnessed in the recently concluded New Zealand series when they chased down three totals of over 275 in as many matches. McCullum’s aggressive mindset has brought a rapid change in the team’s Test setup now, a thing which India will be wary of going into the historic and final match.

With skipper Rohit’s availability still under the clouds due to COVID diagnosis, Jasprit Bumrah may lead the side in his absence. The English side has declared their playing XI with James Anderson replacing Jamie Overton from the last game against the Kiwis. Sam Billings will continue keeping the wickets in place of Ben Foakes, who fails to recover in time from COVID. An exciting and entertaining clash between two strong teams awaits with India looking to create history by winning the first Test series in England after 15 years.
