Indian skipper Virat Kohli has a point to prove the world that he can master the English conditions and thus far on the tour, he has been decent. With Indian winning the T20I series, the ODI series was going to be a lot more competitive and that is what has panned out. Both these amazing cricketing nations won a game each in the ODI series ahead of the decider at Leeds.

The teams are currently tussling out in the decider and England are off to a fantastic start with the ball. They managed to restrict the Indians to 256 runs in their first innings on a track that was slow and dry, something the Indian leg-spinning duo would also enjoy batting on.

Wrist spinners lick their fingers when they find such slow tracks and English leggie Adil Rashid too was not going to miss out on making the most of this opportunity. He ended up registering figures of 3/49 and it was his spell that caused the downfall of the Indian innings. Rashid dismissed Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and Suresh Raina and in the process, he added an unviable record to Kohli’s name.

First leg-spinner to shatter Kohli’s stumps

It might sound outrageously surprising, but that’s true. Rashid bowled an absolute ripper, a quintessential wrist-spinning beauty. Pitching on the middle and leg stump it was a quicker delivery, Kohli was on his backfoot and had misjudged the spin on the delivery. He was waiting behind based on the trajectory of the ball. His off-stump went for a walk in the park and that was the first time a leg-spinner bowled him out in One-Day International cricket.

This fact throws light on a lot of facets, primarily, Kohli’s outstanding prowess against spinners. He is just a master when it comes to tackling the slower bowlers and this is one point which shouldn’t be surprising for the cricket pundits. Indians historically have been very good whilst combatting the spinners but Kohli over the years has epitomized it against the white ball.

Indians have a mountain to climb in the second innings, but the presence of three decent spinners in Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Suresh Raina will be a huge bonus on this slow track.
