England levelled the 3-match Test series against West Indies with a convincing 113-run victory in the Manchester Test. The series-deciding 3rd Test will be played later this week at the same venue. Ben Stokes provided the fireworks on final day morning with an unbeaten 57-ball 78 as England declared the innings at 129/3 which they scored in only 19 overs. Stuart Broad unsettled the West Indies’ top-order with 3-wicket haul after they set a target of 312. Stokes continued to put his best with two crucial breakthroughs that led to dismantling West Indies under 200.

England’s milestone win:
50 – The 113-run win in Manchester was England’s 50th victory in Test cricket against the West Indies. They have played 159 Test matches against the Caribbean team and lost in 58 games thus far. England has won in more than 50 Tests against Australia (110) and South Africa (64) as well.
‘Mr Incredible’ Stokes:
1 – Ben Stokes is now only the 5th player to aggregate 250+ runs and claim two or more wickets in the same Test match. Stokes is also the first player with this feat from England as no English player took more than one wicket in a Test where they scored 250+ runs.
Frank Worrell (261 runs & 3 wickets vs ENG, 1950), Vinoo Mankad (256 runs & 5 wickets vs England, 1952), Sanath Jayasuriya (340 runs & 3 wickets vs IND, 1997) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (305 runs and 4 wickets vs BAN, 2009) are the other four players with this double. All the five players with this double except Mankad also claimed a catch as well during their feat.
3 – Ben Stokes now has scored 250+ runs and also took a wicket in a Test match on two different occasions. The other such instance was during the 2016 Cape Town Test against South Africa. Michael Clarke and Sanath Jayasuriya are the other two players in Test cricket to have recorded the double of 250+ runs and 1+ wicket in a match on two instances.
The lucky charm Curran:
8 – England ended up on the winning side in all the eight Test matches at home when Sam Curran was in the playing XI. Curran is only the 6th England player to be part of the winning side in each of their first eight home Test matches.
Andrew Strauss, Geraint Jones, and Tim Bresnan were part of the winning England team in each of their first nine home Test matches while Ken Barrington and MJK Smith won their first eight home Tests.
England’s acceleration:
6.78 – England’s run rate of 6.78 during the 2nd innings is now their highest run rate in a Test inning of 100+ runs. Their previous highest was 6.16 during the 1987 Birmingham Test against Pakistan. England made 109/7 in only 17.4 overs while chasing 124 in the 4th innings before the match ended in a draw.
2016 – The last instance of England declaring both their innings in a Test match was during the 2016 Test match against Pakistan also in Manchester.
Woakes @ 100:
100 – Chris Woakes completed 100 wickets in the Test format with the two wickets he claimed in the second innings. He is now the 16th player from England with the double of 1000+ runs and 100+ wickets. Woakes went past 500 wickets in first-class cricket with the 3-wicket haul in the first innings.
