Rajasthan Royals (RR) ended at the bottom of the points table in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Until their last league game in the tournament, they were in with a chance of making the playoffs, but a defeat to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) meant that they ended as the cellar dwellers. In order to make amends, a fan asked the Royals to pick Dawid Malan.

The England left-handed batsman is yet to make his IPL debut and has registered himself in the auction at a base price of INR 1.5 crores. The auction is set to take place on Thursday, February 18 in Chennai and the Royals would be looking for some utility players to turn their fortunes around. The 33-year-old Malan is currently ICC’s number-one ranked T20I batsman.

One of the fans asked the Royals to go for Malan in the auction and also suggested him as an opener of Jos Buttler. “Malan is a good opener and good partner for Jos Buttler,” the fan commented.

In the meantime, the Royals had a witty reply to the supporter. “You seem to be a good strategist,” the Royals replied.

Aakash Chopra wants KKR to pick Dawid Malan

Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricketer, wants KKR, the 2012 and 2014 champions, to go for Malan in the upcoming auction.

“KKR have Tim Seifert as an option to open with Shubman Gill. But they could look towards Dawid Malan. With Morgan as the captain, I think they will have a greater interest in Malan.

“Otherwise, they have Tripathi and Nitish Rana has also opened a few times,” Chopra was quoted as saying on his official YouTube channel.

Earlier, in an interview, Malan mentioned that being at the top of the rankings doesn’t guarantee one a spot in the national team. He feels that being atop the rankings only means more pressure on a player to perform.

“It is something I will probably enjoy more when I have retired. It is not something I am really looking at right now. It doesn’t guarantee runs, it doesn’t guarantee you a spot in the team. It’s something that, the day I retire, I will look back on it with fond memories,” Malan stated.
