Indian cricketers are extremely popular across the world and attract so many fans whenever and wherever they travel. Moreover, the popularity of greats like MS Dhoni is always a notch higher than others. Something similar happened on Monday when a particular fan disrupted the practice session to take a selfie with the man himself while he was in the nets batting.

The former captain has played key roles in India’s victory in second and third ODIs. Though he did not score runs at a fast pace, his calmness in the middle has brought sense to the innings which has helped Men in Blue to seal the series. After these knocks, Dhoni’s stock has gone further up in the eyes of the local fans.

The incident

On Monday, the wicketkeeper-batsman was the first to enter the nets after the passing shower delayed the team’s practice session by half an hour. He was taking the knocks in the nets and suddenly encountered with a peculiar situation. An unwelcomed guest, dressed in formals with a small bag hanging from his shoulder, duped the security personnel and entered the nets. He first walked up to Rohit Sharma only having mistaken him for Dhoni.

Rohit, who was waiting for his turn to bat, then politely pointed to Dhoni and the person ran to him when the batsman was getting ready to face the ball. Nobody stopped him from entering the nets as they were left stunned. He smartly walked up to MSD and took the selfie with him. The legend then told him to leave with a smile on his face. The man left but not before taking another picture, shaking hands with his idol and memories he would cherish for the rest of his life.

The Indian supports staff then rushed in and escorted the man out of the ground. All the players had a good laugh at the incident and again concentrated on their practice. Dhoni himself was unperturbed by all this and continued to bat using his feet nicely to the spinners.

The man was later identified as an R Premadasa Stadium staff and hence had easy access to the ground.
