Lancashire (LAN) and Essex (ESS) are set to clash in the 5th match of the English One Day Cup 2023 at The Cricket Field in Sedbergh on August 1. This is going to be the first match for both teams in this tournament. They would be looking forward to finding their team balance and gaining early momentum in the tournament.
Steven Croft will lead a solid one-day team as Lancashire face Essex in their opening match of the One-Day Cup 2023. The big names in ODI cricket will be part of this side and are all eager to get some runs under their belt in preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup. With the ball, Will Williams, Danny Lamb, and Luke Wells will be the key players to watch out for.
Essex enjoyed a small winning run in the 2022 One-Day Cup, winning three consecutive matches by huge margins. However, they had lost a couple of games before that and ended up losing two more after the winning run. A win or two more would have seen Essex in the Quarter-Finals. They would be hoping for more consistency this year. Skipper Tom Westley and wicketkeeper-batter Grant Roelofsen will be the key batters in the middle order. The two were quite successful last season, and Roelofsen was the top-scorer for Essex with 355 runs. Tom Westley has been in good form in the County Championship and should be eager to carry the same in this tournament. The right-arm off-break bowler from South Africa, Simon Harmer, will join the Essex bowling attack this season. Other key bowlers for Essex will be Jamie Porter, Shane Snater, and Aron Nijjar.
