County Ground in Chelmsford will host the 116th match of Vitality T20 Blast 2023, which will be played between Essex and Middlesex. Essex have won seven out of their 12 matches so far, while Middlesex have had a poor season as they won only one out of their 12 games.
Essex squared off against Hampshire in their last outing. It was a high-scoring affair between these two sides. Essex posted 209/7 on the board in 20 overs. Their openers, Daniel Lawrence, 70(33) and Feroze Khushi, 61(37), got them off to a flyer. And Daniel Sams 30*(18) later ensured Essex posted a substantial total. Josh Turner scalped three wickets, while Nathan Ellis grabbed two wickets. While chasing 210, Hampshire's skipper James Vince stepped up with 76(42), a perfect example of a captain leading from the front. Later on, James Fuller 57(29), Benny Howell 34*(18), and Liam Dawson 10*(2) carried Hampshire towards a 4-wicket victory with four balls to spare. Essex's skipper Simon Harmer and Matthew Critchley bagged two wickets each. Essex have lost three games in a row, so they'll look to bounce back with a victory in this game.
Middlesex squared off against Kent in their previous match. It was also a high-scoring encounter. Kent posted 228/3 in 20 overs with Daniel Bell-Drummond's brilliant knock of 111(58) and his opening partner Tawanda Muyeye scoring 50(30). Middlesex were bundled out for 173 in 19 overs. Luke Hollman 48(20) and Skipper 32(24) were two high-scorers for them. Grant Stewart, Joey Evison, and George Linde scalped three wickets each. This was Middlesex's 11th defeat of the season.
