Zimbabwe will take on South Africa in the second and final Test of the series. The match starts on Sunday, July 6, at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. South Africa will be without their captain, Keshav Maharaj, who injured his groin while batting in the first Test. Wiaan Mulder will lead the team in his place, and Senuran Muthusamy has been added to the squad as Maharaj’s replacement.

South Africa won the toss in the first Test and chose to bat. But their start wasn’t great — they lost four wickets for just 55 runs. Two young players making their debut, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Dewald Brevis, then built a strong partnership. They added 95 runs for the fifth wicket before Brevis got out after scoring 51.

Kyle Verreynne didn’t last long, but Pretorius kept going. He played a brilliant innings and scored 153 runs from just 160 balls before Tanaka Chivanga got him out. Corbin Bosch also batted well and stayed unbeaten on 100. South Africa declared their innings at 418 for 9. Chivanga was Zimbabwe’s best bowler, taking four wickets for 83 runs.

Zimbabwe had a tough time with the bat. They lost two wickets quickly, and Brian Bennett had to retire hurt after getting hit on the helmet. Prince Masvaure came in as his replacement. Only Sean Williams put up a fight and scored a solid 137, but no other batter could cross 40. Zimbabwe were bowled out for 251. Mulder took four wickets, while Codi Yusuf and Maharaj took three each.

In their second innings, South Africa added more pressure. Mulder played another fine knock, scoring 147 runs, and Maharaj made a half-century. They ended up making 369 runs. Wellington Masakadza was the pick of the bowlers for Zimbabwe with four wickets.

Chasing a huge target, Zimbabwe could only manage 208 runs. Masakadza top-scored with 57 runs. Bosch bowled beautifully and picked up five wickets for just 43 runs. Lhuan-dre Pretorius was named Player of the Match for his outstanding debut innings.

Pitch Report

The pitch at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo is expected to offer something for both batters and bowlers. On average, teams have scored 337 runs in the first innings across 13 Test matches here, which means batting early could be a good idea. But things get harder as the game goes on — especially in the fourth innings, where teams have scored only 145 runs on average. In the last 10 matches at this ground, spinners have taken about 54% of the wickets, which shows they’ve had a big impact. That said, both fast bowlers and spinners are likely to get equal support from the pitch in this match.
