An FIR has been registered against Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian all-rounder, for his ‘casteist remark’ during an Instagram Live with Rohit Sharma in 2020. The comment was deemed to be in bad taste for the Dalit community and it didn’t go down well with the netizens by any means.

An advocate from the Hisar Division of Haryana lodged a complaint against the 2011 World Cup-winning member for his comments. If reports are to be believed, the Haryana police have registered an FIR of the case eight months after Yuvraj had the Instagram live.

Going by a report in India Today, the Hansi police in Hisar have filed a case under Sections 153, 153A, 295, 505 of IPC, besides sections 3 (1) (r) and 3 (1) (s) of the SC/ST Act.

During the Instagram live, Yuvraj had used the word ‘b***gi’ when talking about Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Yuvraj was, thereafter, a recipient of severe criticism.

“Yeh b***gi log ko kaam nahi hai yeh Yuzi aur isko (Kuldeep),” Yuvraj had said.

“Yuzi ko dekha kya video daala hai apni family ke saath. Maine usko wahi bola ki apne baap ko nacha raha hai, pagal toh nahi hai tu,” Rohit replied.

Yuvraj Singh issued an apology

After seeing the chaos and commotion around him, Yuvraj was quick to issue an apology. The veteran stated that he didn’t mean to hurt the sentiments of anyone by any stretch of the imagination.

“This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed, or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception

“I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same. My love for India and all its people is eternal,” Yuvraj stated.

Yuvraj made his debut in 2000 and retired from international cricket in 2019. He has continued to play in domestic tournaments around the world.
