After not having such a good outing during the first innings of the second Test match between England and New Zealand, England’s pacer Stuart Broad got another setback after a commercial outlet owned by him caught fire on June 11 (Saturday).
A pub co-owned by Broad in Nottinghamshire had caught fire and was left heavily damaged. The fire department was called to the prominent award-winning ‘Tap and Run’ pub located in Upper Broughton, near Melton Mowbray after a big blaze damaged the outlet’s first floor and roof around 3 am.
“I couldn’t believe the news this morning. Not sure I still can. Our wonderful Pub @tapandruncw caught fire in the early hours. Thankfully no one was hurt, the Nottinghamshire Fire Service were incredible in their efforts & thank you to the villagers for the wonderful support,” Broad wrote on Twitter.
“Sorry for the disruption,” he added. “Thinking of our awesome staff today, every single person there has created a special pub for the community. It hurts right now but we will come out the other side,” he added.

A statement put on the pub’s website read the venue would not be trading “for the foreseeable future”.
“We are devastated to announce that due to a significant fire in the early hours of 11 June the Tap & Run will not be trading for the foreseeable future. We are so sorry that we cannot honour our bookings or take any further bookings. We will keep everyone fully up to date on social media over the next few weeks. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the outpouring of support. And finally … we will be back! Watch this space,” it read.
Meanwhile, Broad who managed to scalp two wickets and gave away 107 runs in 26 overs he bowled in the first innings, will want to put on a better show with the ball in the second innings. Earlier, New Zealand after being asked to bat scored 553/10 in their first innings.
