The Indian Premier League (IPL) was formed with a motive to open a door of opportunities for young budding cricketers in the country. While it did live up to the notion to a very good extent, it also played a role in tarnishing the careers of a few cricketers, who for some reason couldn’t cope up with the intense pressure this tournament puts a player into.

A lot of young cricketers, who lived their lives in financial sorrows, found IPL as a great pathway towards financial stability and the cash-rich league did a great job in that regard in many cases. Although not everyone who ended up playing the IPL achieved their main dream, they did get an opening to live their lives harmoniously, one way or the other.

Here are five cricketers who were regular features once in the IPL and are now doing jobs we never knew.

1. Parvinder Awana – Inspector, Income Tax Department

There was a time in the Indian Premier League where Parvinder Awana was so impressive, many felt he could one day become one of the best T20 bowlers in the world. He was a smart operator, who would use the slower deliveries and full-length blockholes to great effect, thus helping Kings XI Punjab profusely during his time.

His good performances even earned him a senior Indian team call-up. But for various reasons, Parvinder Awana could only represent the Indian side in 2 T20Is and ended up playing 33 IPL games in his career. He last played IPL in 2014 and never got picked in the auction again.

Awana later was given a job through sports quota in the Income Tax department as an inspector. He married Sangeeta Kasana in a private ceremony in Delhi, who works as a sub-inspector with the Delhi Police. The 33-year-old has not formally announced retirement but has been away from the game for a good period of time.
