Former Indian medium-pace bowler Debasis Mohanty on Saturday filed a written complaint the Cyber Cell of the Police Department. He alleged that some mischevious punks were uploading obscene and offensive material about him on the internet. He further said that his and his wife’s photographs were being used to cause all this havoc. The former bowler lodged a complaint at the Cuttack Police Headquarters in Orissa.

The 41-year-old Mohanty represented India in two Test matches and 45 ODIs. Mohanty mostly played for India during the 1990s and picked four wickets in Tests. He also picked 57 scalps in the ODI games, something that made him a significant addition to the side. He often troubled the batsmen with his inswinging deliveries. But, as he only bowled medium-pace, he could find a place in the side regularly.

No idea about the criminals: Debasis Mohanty

Mohanty said that he was facing these troubles for over two years now. He also said that he brought it to the notice of the police earlier but there wasn’t any action taken. He added that the police ignored the defaulters completely hoping that good sense will prevail upon them.

“These vulgar things are appearing on the Internet for over two years now. In 2015, I had brought this to the notice of the state crime branch police and after that had ignored them completely hoping that good sense would prevail upon the uploader and they would be deleted from the Internet,” Mohanty said.

However, as things did not change, he said that he was forced to lodge a formal complaint with the police. When asked if he has any idea about the culprits or suspects or if any of his acquaintances to be behind the act, Mohanty said he wouldn’t hazard a guess.

A Crime Branch officer confirmed that a complaint was filed by Mohanty. “The complaint cell will go through the nature of the complaint. It will then submit it to the authority with the suggestions. Authorities will decide if a case is to be registered in this connection. Then it will be decided if to initiate criminal proceedings or not,” the officer said.
