Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav is the man of the moment in Indian cricket. He claimed the best figures by a spinner in a one-day international in England and India won the first ODI in a massive manner. His 6-25 crumbled England out for 268 at Trent Bridge, and in reply, Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 137 and Virat Kohli’s 75 did the job for the men in blue. India won by eight wickets and almost 10 overs to spare.

Two years ago, not many would have thought that Kuldeep would become the world class bowler that he is today. Former India spin bowler Maninder Singh feels that it is Kohli’s confidence in Kuldeep which transformed the Uttar Pradesh bowler’s career completely. Speaking to CricketNext, Singh said that Kuldeep’s consistency has been amazing.

“I really like this boy’s attitude and his desire to learn,” Singh said. “He is keen to ask the seniors of areas he can improve and is always looking to work on his game. There is no end to learning and the moment you realise that, there is no scope of complacency.”

“Also, I think Kohli’s increasing trust on him has helped. We all know the scenario wherein former coach Anil Kumble and Kohli had a difference in opinion on playing the spinner in the Dharamsala Test against Australia. But things have changed and that has helped Yadav also gain confidence.”

Will Kuldeep be picked for the Test series too?

The 23-year-old turned the ball sharply both ways, with none of England’s batsmen able to pick him, and his control of length was also as brilliant. His first three wickets came in 11 only deliveries.

Earlier in the T20I series too, which India won 2-1, Kuldeep scalped 5/24 in Manchester. With the kind of incredible form that he is, it doesn’t seem like the selectors can ignore him in the Test squad, for the Test series which will follow the ODI series, beginning on August 1.
