The proteas in pink struck back at the Wanderers on Saturday to bring fresh life into the six-match one-day series against India. Their resplendent in pink to raise money for a greater cause, ensured they maintained their unbeaten record on this beautiful day. After losing three humiliating losses against the visitors, it was important from South Africa to show some intent, which they eventually managed to do.
After losing the toss and being inserted, it was South African bowlers who put them to recovery after putting the big cat amongst pigeons. Sending Rohit back to the pavilion for another low score, many cricket pundits started to question his place in eleven and more importantly, knowing the areas Rohit Sharma is actually struggling. The reason his failure has caught everyone’s ears is not that of just four matches which India has played so far, but also because of his poor stint in the Test series.
Rohit will always struggle in South Africa
Kepler Wessels, who carries a unique bracket when he opened the batting for Australia, and then led South Africa after the latter came back into the international fold. Speaking to the Times of India, Kepler Wessels went on to make a harsh statement on one of India’s most consistent batsmen and also told the reasons behind his regular failures in South Africa.
He said “He will always struggle to score runs in SA because of his footwork. He plants his front foot across to the off-side and in SA, the pitches always seam and bounce a bit. This is the reason that he averages around 10 there. He’ll always struggle there because of his technique.”
“It doesn’t affect him in India and even in Australia, because the ball doesn’t seam there, it just bounces, but when you have seam and bounce, with that technique, he’s got a problem,” he concluded.
