The ongoing Test series between South Africa and Australia has been a witness to some of the ugliest incidents to have taken place in the history of international cricket. The ball-tampering fiasco has tarnished the reputation of cricket following which the perpetrators have been handed severe punishments. The matter came to light when Cameron Bancroft was caught hiding an object inside his underpants, which immediately grabbed the headlines.

Subsequently, Bancroft was handed a ban of nine months by Cricket Australia. Meanwhile, captain Steve Smith and vice-captain were also involved in the horrendous occurring at the Newlands in Cape Town. Subsequently, they were slapped with a ban of one-year each. Moreover, Darren Lehmann stepped down from the role of leadership as well.

However, amidst the tension a funny moment sparked, which came as a breath of fresh air to a highly-tensed series between the rivals. Faf du Plessis attended a pre-match conference where he was asked about Australia’s tactics which were caught red-handed. However, a funny ringtone broke out, after which the Proteas skipper broke into laughter.

Meanwhile, the South African batsman expressed his sympathy towards what has panned out over the past few days for Steve Smith. “I feel for the guy. You don’t want to see guys going through that and it’s going to be incredibly hard for him over the next days. I just sent him a message of support saying that he’ll get through this, he must just be strong. He appreciated the message. There is a lot of respect between the two of us. He’s a good leader for Australia.” du Plessis mentioned.

South Africa is currently playing Australia in a four-match Test series which the former is leading by 2-1. Meanwhile, the Aussies had to make four matches. Apart from Smith, Bancroft and Warner’s suspension, Mitchell Starc’s injury has also come as a body blow for the visitors. Meanwhile, the Proteas have the golden opportunity of turning them over for the maiden time in the Rainbow nation.
