Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir, as per reports, has received death threats from ‘ISIS Kashmir’. The veteran got the threats on his official email ID. In the wake of the development, Gambhir, also an MP of the Bharatiya Janata Party, has reached out to the Delhi police with a complaint.

After the incident, the veteran has asked for better security arrangement outside his home at Rajendra Nagar. Gambhir received the mail on Tuesday, November 23. The Delhi police, in the meantime, has taken care of security to guard against any probable mishap.

“This is further to our telecommunication; we have received an email from ISIS Kashmir on the official email ID of Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday evening. The mail states death threat to MP and his family. I therefore request you to look into the matter and make adequate security arrangement,” mentioned a letter sent to DCP central district Gaurav Arora, PS to Gautam Gambhir.

Investigations on Gautam Gambhir’s complaint currently underway

Shweta Chauhan, the DCP Central, said that the police have started their work and a thorough investigation is currently underway. It has also been learned that police will try to verify the email address from where the death threats came.

“Gautam Gambhir has approached the Delhi Police, alleging he has received death threats from ‘ISIS Kashmir’. The investigation is under way. Security has been beefed up outside Gambhir’s residence,” Chauhan was quoted as saying in The Times of India.

Back in 2018, Gambhir retired from all forms of cricket after playing in the Ranji Trophy. In 2019, he was elected an MP from East Delhi. From there on, he has taken a number of initiatives, one of which is ‘Jan Rasoi’, for the welfare of the society in a whole.

Gambhir remains one of the prominent figures in the history of Indian cricket. In the 2007 T20 World Cup final and the 2011 World Cup final, he played two handy knocks. But he didn’t get the Player of the Match awards. He also became the ICC’s No.1 ranked Test batter around a decade ago. Moreover, Gambhir guided Kolkata Knight Riders to two titles in the Indian Premier League.
