The COVID-19 pandemic has created a situation where no sporting events are happening across the world. The entire situation of lockdown has been tough on people. In these depressing times, the morale and spirit of all the countrymen would be quite low. Former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir said the best way to change the mood of the country’s population would be through IPL.

Gambhir, who is an elected Member of Parliament from East Delhi, said that he does believe in saving the lives of the people. However, he also said that it would be great to just change the mood of the country.

“As a politician, if you ask me then I would say it is very important for us to save the lives of the people. But if you want to change the mood of the country, not all IPLs are to win or lose, some are to change the mood of the country. So there could not be anything better than IPL for that,” Gambhir said in an interview with Sports Tak.

Whoever wins, it does not matter, eventually, the nation will win: Gautam Gambhir

The former cricketer also said that if the tournament happens, no franchise should just think about winning or losing, but only be concerned with changing the spirit of the nation.

“I know, many people will say that IPL is more important for you, but personally, if IPL happens this year, as an Indian I feel, then any franchise should not look it from the way of winning or losing, they should look it in a way to change the spirit of the nation,” Gambhir added.

Gautam Gambhir further said that there is a lot of negativity due to whatever is happening. The 38-year-old said that IPL would change the atmosphere. He also revealed that this will be the most special IPL in the past 12 years. Gambhir further said even if the cash-rich league happens behind the doors or without foreign players, it would still be great.

“When the world has been brought to a standstill, then there seems to be negativity around, but when people watch IPL, the atmosphere would change. So this IPL would be the most special of all the IPLs in the past 12 years. Even if it happens closed doors or without overseas players, or whoever wins, it does not matter, eventually, the nation will win”, Gambhir said.
