The second wave of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has wretched havoc in India. The country is recording above three lakh positive Covid-19 cases daily as thousands of people are losing their lives to the deadly virus. In these testing times, the cricket fraternity has shown solidarity with the people of India as many cricketers including the likes of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Yuzvendra Chahal, Pat Cummins, Brett Lee have stepped forward to donate and help India fight the crisis.

The Capital city Delhi can be called as one of the worst COVID-19 affected cities across the country as there is a serious dearth of oxygen supply, medicines, and hospital beds there. Former Indian opening batsman who is also MP from one of Delhi’s constituencies, Gautam Gambhir has been doing a lot of noble work during the pandemic. His foundation, Gautam Gambhir Foundation, is helping a lot of people on a daily basis.

However, the veteran can get into trouble for providing Delhi citizens with medicines. On April 25, Gambhir took to his official Twitter handle to make the announcement that his organization will be giving the Fabiflu medicine for free. Gambhir had tweeted, “We all have to stand by each other to survive. Will provide ‘Fabiflu’ to as many as we can in Delhi from the GGF office (22, Pusa Road) between 10-4 from tmrw for FREE. Kindly bring Aadhar & a prescription. Arranging for more O2 cylinders as well. #InThisTogether”

Gautam Gambhir issues a clarification via Twitter

However, the noble deed by Gambhir has resulted in him getting questioned by Delhi Police. Notably, a few of the politicians raised questions on Gambhir regarding how he got access to so many Fabiflu tablets when there is a serious dearth of the same in the state. Pawan Khera of the Congress and Durgesh Pathak of the AAP were among the first ones to question the batsman.

“Is the shortage of Fabiflu at chemists’ shops due to such unauthorized procurement/distribution?” Pawan Khera asked on Twitter.

In the same light, Delhi Police is carrying out a detailed investigation into the matter and has thus sought a response from BJP MP over the same. Gambhir took to his official Twitter handle to issue a clarification as he reckoned that he has provided Delhi Police all the details and will always serve the people of Delhi to the best of his abilities.

“Opposition should not indulge in needless politicisation of the due process. Delhi Police has asked for a reply from us & we’ve provided all details. I will keep serving Delhi & its people to the best of my abilities always!” the Indian veteran tweeted.
