Glenn Maxwell trying his best to get match fit for action-packed next few months

Australia’s batting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who is nursing an injured right shoulder since the ODI series against England in June. Maxwell is trying his best to get in the best possible condition and to be match fit ahead of a busy season. Australia are set to play some important series against teams like Pakistan, South Africa and India starting October — in all formats of the game.

29-year-old Maxwell, who is a more familiar name in the limited-overs, recently underwent training at the HMAS Cerberus Naval Base in Victoria this week. He also featured in Australia’s T20 team in the tri-series played in Zimbabwe last month in which the Kangaroos lost to Pakistan in the final.

My range of movement was restricted

“There was a lot of fluid built up around the bursa, and that was pinching. My range of movement was restricted quite a bit – it still is a little bit. I can’t reach fully above my head consistently. Every now and then it just pinches,” Maxwell told cricket.com.au on Thursday, August 8.

“I was able to get through with the T20 series in Zimbabwe (after England) and just find a way to throw comfortably, and by the end of that series, I felt like I was throwing really well. But once I got home it was about making sure I could sustain it for the rest of my career. That’s what this period is about now,” he added.

With two of their premier batters – Steven Smith and David Warner – banned for a year and two quick bowlers in Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood ruled out of the Pakistan series in October because of injuries, Australia will be hoping not to lose more players. Australia will play two Tests, three ODIs and one-off T20I against Pakistan in the UAE before taking on South Africa in limited-over games followed by a full-fledged series against India at home.

Maxwell, along with Shaun Marsh, were excluded from the upcoming Australia ‘A’ tour of India and that has perhaps put them in the box seat for selection as part of the Test squad against Pakistan, cricket.com.au report said.
The left-handed batsman has played only seven Tests since making his debut in 2013, scoring 339 runs and eight wickets. His last appearance in Tests was against Bangladesh in September 2017.
