Glenn McGrath was a mark of consistency with the ball who could delivery long spells by maintaining the same line and length and inflict the pressure over the batsmen. The tall Australian was the most successful paceman as he ranked himself among the top wicket-takers in both Tests and ODIs. McGrath, often referred as pigeon, played a pivotal role Australia’s hat-trick wins in the Cricket World Cup between 1999 and 2007.

On the occasion of Glenn McGrath’s 48th birthday, we look at his achievements in International cricket:

7/15 – Glenn McGrath’s bowling figures of 7-4-15-7 against Namibia in 2003 are the 3rd best bowling in the ODI format and also the best for Australia. These are also the best bowling figures for any bowler in the World Cup history.


19 – Number of times McGrath dismissed Michael Atherton in the Test cricket. These are the most number of times a bowler dismissed a batsman in this format.


26 – Number of wickets for McGrath in the 2003 World Cup. These are the most number of wickets for a bowler in a single edition of the CWC. Those 26 wickets are also the 2nd most for any player in an ODI series/tournament behind the 27 wickets taken by McGrath only in the 1999 Triangular Series in Australia.


71 – With the 71 wickets in the Cricket World Cup, Glenn McGrath stands as the leading wicket-taker in the history of the tournament.


104 – Number of wickets McGrath took in the Test format by dismissing the batsmen for a duck. No other player dismissed batsmen for a duck as many times as McGrath.


163 – McGrath involved in 163 wickets in International cricket as a bowler in which Adam Gilchrist was the fielder. These are the most wickets for a bowler and fielder combination across formats. Both were involved in 90 Test wickets and 73 ODI wickets which are the 2nd most in the respective formats.


266 – Difference between McGrath’s ODI wickets and ODI runs is the highest difference between wickets and runs for any player in the ODI format. Allan Donald had a difference of 177 between his ODI wickets and runs. The difference of 188 between his wickets and runs in International cricket is also the highest for any player.


381Glenn McGrath’s 381 ODI wickets are the most by an Australian in this format. Out of those 381 wickets, 380 came while playing for Australia and one for World XI. Brett Lee also bagged 380 ODI wickets for Australia. McGrath is also the overall 7th highest wicket-taker in the ODI format.


563 – McGrath is the leading wicket-taker among the pacers in Test cricket. His 563 wickets are the 4th most overall and the 2nd highest among Australian players after Shane Warne’s 563.


956 – McGrath holds the record for taking the most number of wickets among the pacers in International cricket. He bagged 956 wickets in his career across all formats which are the 4th most by any player and the 2nd highest among Australians after Shane Warne’s 1001.
