Graham Ford recently stepped down as the head coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team. While his tenure saw disappointing results, the reason behind his resignation was deemed to be his strained relationship with the Sri Lanka Cricket.

Though his contract was for until the 2019 World Cup, on mutual agreement by both the parties it was ended a couple of years ahead in time. The President of SLC Thilanga Sumathipala was all praise for Graham Ford’s contribution to Sri Lankan cricket in the recent past.

“He joined us at a time where we were quoted by the ICC as being on the ‘verge of suspension’ and at a time where things were volatile and uncertain, Ford had faith in us and has given us his fullest support,” Thilanga said.

SLC’s VP offers to step down

Now if the recent developments are to be believed, it’s the vice president of SLC who has vacated his position in the current Sri Lankan administration. Jayantha Dharmadasa reportedly offered to resign from his post just after Sri Lanka lost a virtual quarter-final game against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, but didn’t receive any response from the SLC. His absence from the press conference after the team returned from England raised questions on his aspirations to continue.

It was reported that Dharamadasa had been kept on the sidelines when it came to making big decisions on international cricket. This probably irked him enough to leave his post. There have also been reports of continuous rifts among senior members of the board.

Jayantha has also been the Sri Lanka Cricket president in the past and even then, he was reported to be at loggerheads with some notable members of the administration. This time he was pitched in as the Vice President and seems like nothing has improved from the past.

It is also reported that the another SLC Vice President K. Mathivanan isn’t quite pleased with SLC’s conduct in recent times, and is expected to take a decision regarding his future with the current administration. The rumours have gained impetus after the proceedings of the match-fixing allegations during domestic tier B tournament is completed. Mathivanan is currently in charge of matters related to domestic cricket.
