'Hall of fame innings' - Twitterati bash SRH's Wriddhiman Saha for his slow knock against KKR

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) started off poorly to their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign losing to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Their middle-order collapsed like anything in the last few overs. The same aspect of their game was in focus ahead of their ongoing game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). To cover up for previous game’s poor show, the team included experienced Wriddhiman Saha in the XI and he came out to bat 4.

SRH lost Jonny Bairstow early and even David Warner was dismissed for a 30-ball 36 in the 10th over. Varun Chakravarthy got the better after which, for everyone’s surprise, Saha came to bat and expectedly, struggled to get going from the word go. Manish Pandey was looking good at the other end. But both of them were playing a similar kind of cricketing leading to the run-rate not going up at any stage.

While Pandey’s approach was understandable, not many were able to figure out what Saha was doing. Rather the latter’s strike-rate, at one stage was 45 and he was playing way too many dot balls.

Wriddhiman Saha and Pandey added 62 runs for the third wicket but they took 8.3 overs for the same. SRH never managed to up the ante due to the brittle middle-order to come and they were possibly trying to allow Mohammad Nabi come in and play his shots from the word go. In the process, however, they played a bit too slow, especially Saha and it ended up Pandey getting out trying a big shot in the 19th over.

The SRH wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha, however, could never up the pace during his painstaking stay in the middle and was run-out eventually in the last over. He could only score 30 runs off 31 balls with a four and a six each and played as many as 10 dot balls during his knock.

SRH were rusty throughout the innings and with no set batsman in the middle like Pandey or even Warner led to them posting only 142 on the board at the end of 20 overs. The fans weren’t pleased a bit though with Saha’s batting and they criticised him for his slow batting.
