Out of favor Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has invited fresh controversy after he tweeted a controversial statement against the Sri Lankan cricket team, who are currently in India to take part in a 3-match Test series, followed by limited overs cricket. Harbhajan, who last represented India in a T20I match against UAE in Dhaka last year, has been known for his strong jibes at certain cricketers and teams.

The 37-year-old veteran spinner’s last Test match came against Sri Lanka in the year 2015.  Since then, Harbhajan has been struggling to seal a berth in the Indian side. Interestingly, he deleted the tweet later, but it seems the damage has been caused as Twitterati don’t miss out on such statements easily.

It looks like his tweet came in as a response to Sri Lanka’s opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne’s statement, where he mentioned that the visitors are ready to face the challenge posed by the Virat Kohli-led unit. Sri Lanka were thrashed and handed a whitewash (3-0) during their home Test series earlier this year, but they had a short revival as they went on to beat Pakistan in UAE, a feat which many teams failed to achieve.

Bhajji’s tasteless tweet read “Same way how they did in recent series.. they r getting beaten by Zimbabwe.. 1st inn 200 second inn 150. Sri Lankan team at their lowest so sad to see them like this.. hope they will revive and get to international level.”

Karunaratne had earlier said“I know Jadeja and Ashwin are both hungry for wickets. Every time they bowl it’s about sticking to the basics. If I don’t give them any chance, they will try to do something else. If we need them to change the field you have to do something extra. That’s my gameplan… I wait for the loose ones and I will stick to that. If it does not work I will think out of the box and give some extra pressure to the bowlers.”
