Harbhajan Singh has been one of India’s greatest spinners to have played the sport. The veteran has plied his trade in all formats of cricket and has tasted a significant amount of success. However, he couldn’t hold on to his place in the team owing to the emergence of spinners in Ravichandran Ashwin. Moreover, his own form dipped because of which he gradually went out of contention for a national team selection.

The discarded off-break bowler has also been on the receiving end of several controversies. He was accused to have slapped Sreesanth in the inaugural edition of the IPL following which he was greeted with brickbats from nook and corner of the country. The Monkey-Gate scandal took place a decade earlier, but the memories of the same haven’t faded away just yet.

Harbhajan- Controversies’ own son

He went into an altercation with Andrew Symonds after which he was punished with a suspension. The matter went to such an extent where the Indians threatened to boycott the series. He also called Matthew Hayden and Adam Gilchrist a ‘big liar’ and ‘no saint’ respectively. In 2006, he appeared in a Royal Stag advertisement without the turban and he was slammed left, right and center by the Sikh community. They also demanded the commercial be withdrawn.

Recently, he commented about the Sikh minority community in Peshawar who had to duck for cover owing to the attacks by the Islamic fundamentalists. He condemned the issue and expressed his opinions on Twitter. He wrote.

“It’s so sad to know such things r still happening…Insaniyat khatam ho gayi hai”

A fan wasn’t amazed by Harbhajan’s words over the matter. Subsequently, he slammed the veteran on the public platform. He wrote

“India me bhi jo minorities ko maar rahe hai uske baare me bhi kabhi kuch bol diya karo sir…..pehle apne desh ka haal sahi kijiye tab dusre ka dekhiyega…”

Harbhajan was up to the task and he shut down the troll with a stern reply

“Baat kisi desh ki Nahi ho rahi hai..baat insaniyat ki ho rahi hai..”
