India’s star batswoman Harmanpreet Kaur, who played a clinical role in her side’s campaign in the Women’s World Cup last year, will be joining the Punjab Police next month as a Deputy Supritendent of Police. Kaur’s home state, Punjab, had offered the DSP post following her heroics in the mega-event. The decision comes after her previous employment bond with the Indian Railways was waivered. Earlier, the Arjuna award winner was not being relieved by Western Railway, where she worked as an Office Superintendent.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, who took up her case with the Railway authorities also expressed happiness with the developments. Singh had personally discussed the matter with Union Railway minister Piyush Goyal, urging him to accept Harmanpreet’s resignation from the Railways in order to let her accept the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Punjab.
After being waivered, the 28-year-old thanked Captain Amarinder Singh and Railways Minister Goyal for their support. She also took to her Twitter to handle to convey the same.
She wrote, “Excited about joining @PunjabPolice as DSP. Thank you Chief Minister @capt_amarinder Ji for pursuing my bond waiver with @RailMinIndia. Your support & encouragement will always keep me motivated to deliver my best. And thank you also @PiyushGoyal Ji for your help in the matter.”
