A couple of days after the heartbreaking loss to Pakistan in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy, Anil Kumble has decided to step down as the head coach of Indian cricket. An official confirmation is yet awaited from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or the outgoing coach. Commentator Harsha Bhogle didn’t particularly seem happy with this and took to Twitter to express his disappointment.

Bhogle mentioned in his tweet that Indian cricket has lost an outstanding resource. His tweet read, “If it is true that Anil Kumble has stepped down as coach, Indian cricket has let itself lose an outstanding resource.” It’s indeed saddening to a personal spat between the players and the coach has resulted in such a wonderful source of knowledge and inspiration in Kumble stepping down.

Bhogle also threw light on a harsh, yet true fact that the captain will inevitably have the final laugh when it comes to altercations between coaches and captains in Indian cricket. “It is inevitable that if there is a falling out between captain and coach, the captain will have his way,” he mentioned in another tweet.

The 55-year-old also added that people who are committed to their work and give their hundred percent should be preserved. He also said that it’d be disappointing if Kumble is not given a bigger role in Indian cricket, respecting his services to the game. “Organisations must strive to preserve committed people. I will be disappointed if there isn’t a bigger role for Anil Kumble,” he mentioned.

New coach for the series against West Indies?

Though this seemed inevitable that the former Indian captain will step down in the near future from his responsibilities, BCCI officials mentioned that he will stay on till the end of the West Indies tour. This means that a new coach will take guard well before everyone’s expectations.

Virender Sehwag is reported to be the front runners and one of the hot favourites to take the coveted post and it might not be surprising if he joins the side pretty soon. Considering how well Kumble has been piling up results, this indeed is a shambolic way to exit such a massive post.
