The pressure of international sports can get to a player sometimes. It is not easy to keep playing at the highest level for a very long time. If a player represents his country for more than a decade, it shows the hard work that he has been putting behind the scenes to keep himself motivated to perform consistently. Injuries and family concerns to play a major role in determining the length of a sportsperson’s career.

The most talented cricketer of the modern era has finally hung up his boots. AB de Villiers, the South African batsmen will not be seen in the Proteas jersey again. Such has been the impact of this man that many of his fans are expecting the news to be just another rumour.

AB was looking in is prime and was hitting the ball as good as ever but the 34-year old cited that he has run out of gas and cannot take in any more. His teammate Hashim Amla wished AB de Villiers good luck for his future and felt lucky to have played with him for quite a few years.

One in millions

Amla tweeted: “All the best @ABdeVilliers17 on ur new chapter. What a player, what a man!Truly an honour to have watched & fortunate to have been in ur team.” Though AB hasn’t won many international trophies, his contribution to cricket will be forever etched in our memory.

Popularly known as Mr. 360, de Villiers has scored over 19000 runs for South Africa and has played over 400 matches. He remained a vital cog in the Proteas setup for quite a long time. His retirement will leave a big void in the national team as it is almost impossible to fill AB’s shoes. He is probably the most versatile and finest batsmen of the generation. The way he hit the cricket ball often left people speechless.

There are things that only AB can do on the field. From taking Superman catches to cheeky paddles, there is nothing that he cannot do. The retirement of de Villiers is surely the end of an era and a big loss to international cricket.
