After annihilating West Indies in the second ODI of the three-match series, Virat Kohli and his troops strode at the Barbati Stadium in Orissa with an objective to seal the series. Both the sides have showcased formidable batting performances so far in the series.

With the series being levelled 1-1, both sides were optimistic about delivering a prolific performance in the third match. However, the fielding woes continued for India in the third ODI. After being put to bat first, the Caribbean side posted a massive total of 315 runs on the scoreboard. Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard decimated the Indian bowling scores as they smashed 89 and 74 respectively.

The Virat Kohli-led side failed to scalp wickets at regular intervals as Pollard and Pooran stitched a record fifth-wicket partnership of 135 runs. Navdeep Saini, who donned the Indian ODI jersey for the first time, emerged as their top-performer as he scalped two wickets in his spell.

Rishabh Pant has often been censured for his consistency

Rishabh Pant, who has often been censured for his poor glovework, failed to leave his mark in the third ODI. The youngster dropped three easy catches behind the stumps which made Twitterati fume over his poor wicket-keeping skills. Pant dropped a regulation catch behind the stumps in the 25th over when the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer was batting on nine runs. Hetmyer eventually went on to gather 37 runs before debutant Navdeep Saini scalped his wicket.

Despite exhibiting explosive knocks on several occasions, Pant’s consistency with the bat and his glovework behind the stumps have always been dubious. The Delhi player had showcased his batting calibre in the previous match, where he had smashed 39 runs off just 16 balls. However, he has failed to deliver match-winning performances on a regular basis.

The debate over Rishabh Pant’s inclusion in the team has been a never-ending matter. The left-hander was touted as former Indian skipper MS Dhoni’s successor. However, Pant has failed to fill the void which Dhoni left since his absence from the game. Prior to the ODI series, many fans were displeased regarding Pant’s selection over Sanju Samson. If Pant continues to repeat his mistakes, it will be an uphill task for the 22-year-old to cement his spot in the Indian side.

Here’s how Twitter reacted over Pant’s shabby glovework:
